She was also selected to the top All Star Game which featured the top 40 players from both the 16 and 17 national camp. The addition of Amy Schlagel at defense immediately strengthens a core group that has played together for a few years and adds an offensive threat from the point. Amy is a two-time National camp participant and participated in the 16 Camp All Star game. Top newcomers: Last year we had three freshman join the team and be immediate impact players. This year we will have a promising crop of freshmen and sophomores looking to make the same impact. They all played together on one of the top 14U teams last year and look to make a seamless jump to the high school level. We also have a good core of kids who logged a lot of minutes on both JV and Varsity (in spots) last year, who primed to fight for the open spots vacated by our large senior class.
The coach says: “This team will be young, but deep. We have a tough and hectic early schedule. We will play our fourth game on November 15. This young team will have to gel early to handle the tough early games. We are proud to have a very strong schedule again this year, and feel it will help us prepare to be a contender towards the end of the season. We will have a group of players that have had success at all age levels of youth hockey, and now look to make their mark on the high school league. This staff has a belief in challenging the kids physically and mentally early in the season, so they are prepared for anything that comes their way in January and February. With the young core, it may not be pretty in the early months, but we plan to play our best hockey late in the year and look to the end of the regular season when three of the last five games against Edina, Minnetonka and Benilde-St. Margaret’s will be the yardstick to measure this team’s progress as we enter section playoffs.”

We also once again play a challenging schedule which will push us to be our best every day. Letterwinners lost: 4
Head coach: Jeff Corkish
Years at school: 14
Record at school: 45-32-5
Coach’s alma mater: Wawota
Assistant coaches: Steve Benson, John Klimek, Josh Colvin
The coach says: “Our team’s strengths will be in the players and the weaknesses will be in the coaches. Our D coach has only been around for 17 years so we are always trying to support him as much as we can. Our goalie coach was a goalie – enough said – and our forward coaches can only score so many goals. Our players have really put a lot of time in this offseason. Natalie Simons has worked very hard in the offseason, shooting over 30,000 pucks for the second straight season and will again score, at will, on Coach Colvin. Seniors Jackie Stark and Danielle Duffy will lead this team as long as they stop smiling and laughing all day. We have some of the best depth at forward that we have ever had so we should be able to score some goals and win some games 11-10. It is not the defense’s fault; their coach wants both D on the ice to be in on every rush: ‘If you are not near the goal line, you are not deep enough.’ Our goalies will be led by Brooke Webber and Madi True. Both great kids who understand their role and should understand by reading this that they will be thrown to the wolves. Good luck you two. Overall we have a great group of kids who love to come to the rink and work hard. They love to challenge the top teams in the SEC and want to fight to do their best in the section tourney.”

However, there are several players waiting for their opportunity to continue the winning tradition at Roseville. In addition, the Raiders will look for returning forwards senior Sarah Knowlton,  senior Megan Traigia and junior Erika Bjorkman to provide the offense while senior captain Katie Cristan and juniors Xilly Lang and Sami Anderson to anchor the defense. Top returning goaltender: Sophomore Sydney Conley (2.10, .870)
The coach says: “I think the biggest adjustment will be having a new coaching staff for the first time in 16 years.  Our biggest loss will be losing my assistant Pete Edlund who was a great coach. Predictions are something to talk about, that’s about it. So, our expectation is being better than we were a year ago. We have some question marks. Goaltending is not one of them. Sophomore Sydney Conley showed us all at the State Tournament with how great she can be and we have another solid goaltender in Rachel Tappe, so our goaltending is a big plus for us. We are going to need Riley Viner to be a big-time scorer for us and I know that she can be. She had a great off-season and I believe is going to have a great senior year. Our defense with Lauren Wilcox, Anna Barlow and Nikki Karg are very good, but we will be looking for a fourth and fifth D who can step up for us. Abby Palmquist and Brigette Miller are going to have to continue to improve after having solid sophomore years. We also are going to need big years from juniors Maddie DeSmith and Anna Leadens if we are going to be where we want to be at the end. Most importantly we need our junior and senior class to be great leaders. I don’t think you can have success on the ice or off, if you don’t get great leadership.”

We have taken a group of young players two seasons ago and have been improving each year. Our goal is to compete well against every team on our schedule this season. We should have the opportunity to play spoiler this season in a tough Section 5AA come playoff time. Anything can happen if we can get our team playing well in February.”
