Upper Midwest High School Elite League


Training camp set to start

 

The Upper Midwest High School Elite League announced that it will once again hold a training camp at Brainerd Civic Arena.

The camp is scheduled for Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

All Elite League players will be outfitted with Bauer/Nike equipment at the camp.

The first week of the regular season will feauture games Sept. 8-9 at St. Louis Park Rec Center and the Kohl Center on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison.

Norway will once again bring its Under-17 national team to compete in the first two weeks of the Elite League.

 

First-round picks

Former Elite League star Ryan McDonagh (Cretin-Derham Hall H.S./Team Southeast), who tallied 16 points during the 2006 Elite League season, was selected 12th overall in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

Later in the first round, Vancouver selected Patrick White (Grand Rapids H.S./Team North) with the 25th overall pick.

McDonagh, the 2007 Mr. Hockey Award winner, is headed to play at the University of Wisconsin in the fall. White is headed to the University of Minnesota.

 

Advanced 17 stars

The roster for the Advanced 17 players selected to go to the USA Hockey National Festival in St. Cloud included several Elite League alumni.

Nine of the 13 forwards have played in the league. In addition, all six defenseman and both goaltenders are also Elite League alumni.
