Brent Bradford and Vic LeMire, authors of a new hockey resource book, “Goaltenders are not Targets,” have joined forces to deliver a series of articles that relate directly to parents in the game of hockey. Throughout the hockey season, it is hoped that all parents will gather some pertinent information so that every player is provided with the unconditional support that is necessary for enhanced levels of self-confidence, self-efficacy and enjoyment in the game of hockey.
Important questions to consider during the hockey season: Where … when … why … how … in the world did specific parents come up with such outrageous and, oftentimes, cruel behaviors that are so commonly observed in arenas across the hockey world?

MasterCard struck gold with their “priceless” advertising campaign as they showed us both humorous and heart-felt illustrations of what money can’t buy. It was a gentle reminder to all of us to slow down and smell the roses hidden within each and every day.
With our heads buried into our cell phones and our ears plugged into iPods, seeing or stopping to smell anything has become a challenge. We struggle to be politically correct, environmentally friendly and make sure our kids have enough self-esteem.
Perhaps the iPhone will soon provide us with an app to help us find those elusive roses. Days speed past us like an Illinois driver on the freeway. Too afraid to stop for fear we will get left behind, we set the cruise control and try to keep up.
Like the roses that are so cleverly camouflaged by everyday life, the priceless moments of a season can pass us by if we aren’t paying close attention. As the high school hockey season begins, here is my list of priceless moments reserved for those who as the Beach Boys proclaimed, stayed true to their school and themselves.

Question: I am a 50-year-old who developed hip arthritis 18 months ago. I attempted to play through my injury for six months, but then I had to stop. After a thorough workup, I was sent to rehabilitation and after this I have almost no pain. While I have hip stiffness and tightness and the decreased motion, I would like to try and skate again. Do you think this is possible?
In response to an on-ice incident at a MIAC men’s hockey game on Oct. 27, in which a Bethel University player was hit from behind into the boards, the MIAC athletic directors agreed at their meeting on Nov. 13, to place on the agenda at their March meeting the possibility of forming an Incident Review Committee. This group would determine if additional suspensions are warranted following incidents at MIAC sporting events. Currently there is no committee that can administer additional suspensions to a coach or player.

As the 2012 Ms. Hockey Minnesota winner, Hannah Brandt had a lot to live up to when she arrived at the University of Minnesota. She did not disappoint. The freshman from Vadnais Heights, Minn., netted a hat trick in her first game as a Golden Gopher. Prior to her arrival at the “U,” Brandt led Hill-Murray to four consecutive conference titles and an appearance in the 2011 state tournament. She has represented Team USA multiple times, including on the U-18 team that won gold at the 2011 World Championships.
In 2011-12, there were over 150,000 recreational Adult Hockey players registered in the United States. The NHL dresses less than 1,500 each season. Therefore, it is important for youth and adult players alike to remember that recreational hockey is a big deal, and hockey truly is a life-long sport.
Adults playing hockey in Minnesota is nothing new. The two largest organized adult groups are the Minnesota Wild Adult League, operating out of the Schwan Super Rink, and AHA Hockey which plays at multiple facilities within the Twin Cities metro area. Together those groups register over 5,000 Adult Men and Women in programs throughout the year.
